1:59 PM:A parks and recreation employee discovered a decomposed body early this morning in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.

The employee found the body at about 7:55 a.m. near Eighth Avenue and Fulton Street, police spokesman Sgt. Wilfred Williams said.

Williams said the employee first “smelled something decaying,” then saw the body and called police.

The cause of death was not immediately known.

Homicide investigators were called to the scene, but police have yet to call the death suspicious, Williams said.

Williams would not disclose the approximate age or gender of the deceased, nor how long the body is believed to have been in that location.

He said the medical examiner’s office would determine cause of death and whether foul play was involved.

11:27 AM: A body was found this morning in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.

Police said the body was discovered near Eighth Avenue and Fulton Street just before 8 a.m.

Investigators remained at the scene at 10:30 a.m.
