The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for Bay Area beaches from 10 a.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday.

A northwest swell of 14 to 18 feet due to arrive along the Central California coast by Friday morning combined with local gale force winds will make the seas choppy, according to the weather service.

Residents are advised to be cautious along the coast and to be aware of local ocean conditions.

The surf advisory will affect San Francisco, Santa Cruz, San Mateo, Marin, Monterey, Contra Costa, Napa, Sonoma, Santa Clara and Alameda counties, according to the weather service.
