Yesterday afternoon, the Bay Area Coalition for our Reproductive Rights gathered at the Montgomery BART station to oppose the abortion restrictions included in the healthcare legislation passed this last weekend. In their words:

The anti-choice, regressive Stupak-Pitt Amendment sends women back to pre-Roe v. Wade days when those with resources had options, and those without were forced to carry the burden without dignity, respect or support. BACORR absolutely condemns this any piece of legislation that institutionalizes sexism and puts women’s reproductive health last.

In today’s Chronicle, an Op-Ed from Loyola Law School professors Brietta Clark and Karl Manheim describe the bill’s language as “cleverly drafted to masquerade as a “taxpayer protection” measure but is structured to discourage even privately funded insurance coverage for abortion.”

The Appeal’s Matt Ghali booked down from the SEIU rally to catch this demonstration (the man is everywhere!), take a look at his photoset, above.
