Travelers in San Francisco’s Sunset District will face disruptions to San Francisco Municipal Railway service and street closures over the next month as Muni performs construction work on the aging track at two major intersections.

The $2 million project to replace worn-down rails and pavement along the N-Judah line, at the heavily trafficked intersections of Judah Street and 19th Avenue and Judah Street and Sunset Boulevard, is scheduled to begin Friday.

Work will continue through Monday, and on the weekends of Nov. 20 to Nov. 23 and Dec. 4 to Dec. 7.

During construction, regular N-Judah service will end at Church and Duboce streets and bus shuttles will ferry passengers along the remainder of the route out to Ocean Beach.
Also, Judah Street will be closed to traffic in both directions at 19th Avenue and Sunset Boulevard during construction.

Construction hours are from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Shuttle bus hours are 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Similar rail improvements are planned for early next year along Muni’s J-Church and L-Taraval lines.

Most of Muni’s 70 miles of tracks are more than 30 years old, the agency said.
