San Francisco police this morning served search warrants in the city’s Bayview and Sunset districts as part of an ongoing investigation into MS-13 gang activity.
Police spokesman Sgt. Wilfred Williams said the warrants were served at homes at 1244 Revere Ave. and 2651 43rd Ave. early this morning.
Police would not comment today on whether any arrests were made, citing an ongoing investigation.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed federal immigration authorities participated in the operation.
In October 2008, federal and local authorities raided several locations throughout the Bay Area, arresting dozens of alleged MS-13 members believed to have been operating in San Francisco’s Mission District and in the East Bay city of Richmond.
More than 20 alleged gang members were later charged in federal court for offenses including murder, assault, robbery, extortion and drug trafficking.
MS-13, also known as Mara Salvatrucha, has origins in El Salvador and is considered by authorities to be one of the most dangerous organized crime gangs in the country.
Alleged MS-13 member Edwin Ramos, accused in the June 22, 2008 fatal shootings of a San Francisco father and two of his sons, is currently awaiting trial in San Francisco Superior Court on three counts of murder.
