Violated Angels — Yerba Buena Center for the Arts

There was a movement in Japan in the sixties called “pink film”. It has lots of fancy descriptions like “erotica,” “sexploitation,” and “softcore porn.” Wait, I don’t understand. Luckily there are four guiding principles:

1. The film must have a required minimum quota of sex scenes
2. The film must be approximately one hour in duration
3. It must be filmed on 16 mm or 35 mm film within one week
4. The film must be made on a very limited budget

Did anyone read 2-4?

Director Koji Wakamatasu is known as The Pink Godfather. When he wasn’t filming porn, he was filming murder. Nowadays “porn and murder” is probably some LA boner’s blog where he posts all his polaroid pics. But back in the sixties it meant revolution. And revolution meant partying. And everyone played duck duck goose until someone got pregnant.

The YBCA is doing a Pink Godfather retrospective until Halloween. Violated Angels is his “most famous, sadistic and coldest work.” Check it out tonight at 7:30 to find out how many angels they can violate in an hour. Japan, what the hell is going on? Info.
