Two males were injured in what appears to be a shootout involving two groups in San Francisco’s Bayview District tonight, a police spokeswoman said.

Officers responded to Garlington Court and La Salle Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. on reports of multiple shots fired. San Francisco police Sgt. Lyn Tomioka said the gunfire followed a dispute between two groups and police are investigating whether the two males who were shot wounded each other.

Both were taken to San Francisco General Hospital. One male was undergoing surgery tonight for an injury that was considered life-threatening and the second is expected to survive, Tomioka said.

“We’re asking for witnesses to come forward,” Tomioka said. Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444.
