Hello from the Richmond!

This week was a quick shot of rain with a splash of rainbow. Richmond resident Susan captured pictures of the spectacular rainbow that sat over the edge of the Richmond on Monday. The de Young had their own weather-related pics of their roof under siege by the flash storm on Monday.

We’re squeezing one last music festival out of Golden Gate Park this weekend. It’s West Fest, a 40th anniversary celebration of Woodstock. 42 bands, 3 stages and 26 poster artists, solar domes, alternative vehicles, Electric bikes, Native American Tipi Village, Sustainable Living Road Show, Conscious Art Gallery…you get the idea. Free on Sunday from 9am – 6pm in Speedway Meadow.

Not to be outdone, elsewhere in the park will be the Golden Gate Book Fair, featuring used, vintage, rare and collectible books for sale. And for your four legged family members, there’s Pet Pride Day at Sharon Meadows. Both on Sunday and both free.

Halloween is creeping up fast! We have a lot of Halloween happening in the Richmond, ranging from events at the Academy of Sciences to a harvest festival at our community center. The Legion of Honor will also host a ghoulish gala on October 30 in honor of their “Very Postmortem: Mummies & Medicine” exhibition that opens the next day. Mummies and Halloween – does it get any better?

Yes, it does! Next Thursday night the Balboa Theater hosts “Gore N’ Snorefest”, a film festival featuring two super sleazy sexy spooky exploitation classics. With titles like Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers and Zontar, The Thing From Venus, this is sure to perk up your Halloween week.

Last Friday Supervisor Eric Mar held a reception for the opening of “Photography from the Fog”, an exhibition of the works of Richmond District photographers. The photos, along with a sculpture of the 38 Geary made by neighborhood gallery Frankenart Mart, are on display at his City Hall office for the next several months. Speaking of Supervisor Mar, here’s a great pic of him participating in last week’s earthquake drill.

And finally, we’re beaming with pride this week because local Moroccan restaurant, Aziza, received a star in Michelin’s 2010 Guide to San Francisco and Bay Area Restaurants.

Have a great weekend everyone!
