Do you typically avoid the “Mid-Market” area because of its preponderance of pee, angry hookers, and dispassionate muggers? Well, here’s your chance to see what you’ve been missing: according to Mayor Newsom’s schedule of public events, which is regularly emailed out to us media folks (in case you thought we were doing boring old reporting!), at 5 PM today he will:

tour new Market Street improvements and launch new arts and economic development initiative. Walk starts at 1231 Market Street x 8th Street, continues on to 989 Market Street x 6th Street for unveiling

When reading this release, one Appeal staffer mused “I wonder how much street-sweeping was necessary to make it presentable? They must’ve been out with pressure-hoses all night long.”

Which, probably! We’d go see this presumably gleaming stretch of Market ourselves today at 5, but we have plans to get hammered and eat Halloween candy. But we think you should go, and tell us how it was.
