A female pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle tonight at Van Ness Avenue and Bush Street in San Francisco, a police spokeswoman said.

The victim was hit at about 9:15 p.m. and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, police Sgt. Lyn Tomioka said.

The driver of the vehicle stopped after the crash and was being interviewed by investigators tonight. The driver was not arrested and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, but the incident remains under investigation, Tomioka said.

Preliminary reports indicate the victim was in a crosswalk when she was struck.
