harrisnewsom.jpgIn the storied tradition of all political hopefuls who publish books before elections, City District Attorney (and CA Atty. Gen. hopeful) Kamala Harris has released her take on crime fighting. The book, called Smart on Crime, was published by Chronicle Books (formerly a sister company of teh Chron) and ballyhooed by local law enforcers and political campaigners at a release party last Wednesday.

Smart may be the watchword for Harris’s campaign, as she has taken heat over not pursuing the death penalty in two high profile murder cases. LAPD Police Chief William J. Bratton has endorsed her candidacy for AG, and defends her anti-death penalty actions saying, “It’s much cheaper to sentence them to life in prison and throw away the key.”

Other recent initiatives by Harris have focused on mortgage fraud and preventing teen dating violence.
