Marriage Equality USA is inviting Bay Area residents to participate in the sixth annual Coast to Coast Bridge Walk today as gay marriage supporters march across the Golden Gate Bridge in solidarity with the National Equality March in Washington, DC.

At the National Equality March, gay rights supporters from across the country will gather to encourage Congress to pass federal equal protection laws, event organizers said.

Although this is the equality march’s first year, the bridge walk is now in its sixth year. It is meant to coincide with National Coming Out Day.

The walk starts at 9:30 a.m. at Crissy Field in San Francisco. Before the walk, speakers, including State. Sen. Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, will give presentations.

“Marriage Equality USA’s bridge walk is a great way for supporters to find out the latest information about how to help us regain marriage equality in California,” said Pamela Brown, Marriage Equality USA’s policy director.

Participation in the Bridge Walk is free.
