Sea_Lion_Pup.jpgSea lions and swimmers are fighting for territory this summer, as ABC 7 reports. Swimmers at San Francisco’s Aquatic Park have been accosted by the foraging beasts who are straying well out of their normal hangouts this season to follow a larger than usual sardine run.

The park is part of the National Park Service and under the care of the Port Commission. So, the port is doing the sensible thing: they’re considering underwater explosives and rubber buckshot to scare off errant sea lions. The sea lions might have an instinctual prerogative to eat all the migrating sardines they can, but the port has a contractual obligation to keep the Aquatic Park clean and safe for humans.
