Previously: SFPD Arrest Man For Stabbing Ex-Girlfriend To Death

A San Francisco man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death last month pleaded not guilty to murder charges today in San Francisco Superior Court.

Manuel Castro, 31, entered the plea in court this morning through a Spanish interpreter. Bail has been set at $7 million.

Prosecutors have charged Castro with murdering his former girlfriend Ena Canales on Aug. 1.

Canales, 32, also of San Francisco, was reported missing that day, but was not found until Aug. 5, when a friend spotted her Pontiac Aztec sport utility vehicle parked in the 800 block of Terry A. Francois Boulevard, according to police.

Police found Canales’ body in the back of the car.

Castro was arrested in Maryland on Aug. 19. In addition to the murder charge, he is facing a separate assault with a deadly weapon charge for an alleged attack on Canales’ new boyfriend.
