Elsewhere: S.F. windsurfer found dead west of Golden Gate

9/21 9:58 AM: The Marin County coroner’s office has identified a 65-year-old man who went missing off San Francisco’s Crissy Field on Saturday while windsurfing and was later recovered about two-and-a-half miles west of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Bretislav Drasky was spotted by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter at 6:18 p.m., according to the coroner’s office. He had been reported missing about two hours earlier.

A Coast Guard motorboat then recovered the San Francisco man’s body.

U.S. Coast Guard Lt. j.g. Jeremy Pichette said Drasky was taken to Coast Guard Station Golden Gate in Sausalito, where paramedics pronounced him dead. The body was transferred to the Marin County coroner’s office.

A pedestrian walking on the Golden Gate Bridge reported seeing a surfboard and a sail in the water east of the bridge near Crissy Field at about 4:30 p.m., according to Pichette. The Coast Guard then launched a helicopter and boat for the search.

A description provided by a friend of Drasky at Crissy Field matched the description of the body recovered, Pichette said.

9/19 9:41 PM: The body of a male windsurfer who went missing off San Francisco’s Crissy Field this afternoon was later recovered about two-and-a-half miles west of the Golden Gate Bridge, U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Junior Grade Jeremy Pichette confirmed this evening.

The man’s name has not yet been released.

A Coast Guard helicopter spotted the man in the water at 6:18 p.m.

He had been reported missing about two hours earlier.

A Coast Guard motorboat then recovered the body.

“He had no vitals by the time he was brought on board,” Pichette said. He said the man was wearing a wetsuit but did not have a radio.

Crewmembers performed CPR to no avail.

Pichette said the man was taken to Coast Guard Station Golden Gate in Sausalito, where paramedics pronounced him dead. The body was transferred to the Marin County coroner’s office.

Pichette said he could not speculate on whether the man had drowned. He said the body was found intact.

The coroner will make a determination on a cause of death.

7:15 PM: The U.S. Coast Guard has found a person in the water west of the Golden Gate Bridge after a windsurfer was reported missing off San Francisco’s Crissy Field this afternoon.

Coast Guard Lt. Junior Grade Jeremy Dichette said a Coast Guard motor life boat found the person in the water about four miles west of the Golden Gate Bridge at about 6:10 p.m.
The person was taken aboard the boat and CPR was performed, Dichette said.

The condition of the person, who was taken to Coast Guard Station Golden Gate in Sausalito, was not immediately available.

Dichette could not confirm whether the person was the missing windsurfer.
