8/28 7:34: San Francisco police tonight released the identity of a 21-year-old man wanted for a fatal shooting Thursday morning in the Bayview District.

Marquez Benson, 23, and another man were shot in the street near Matthew Court and Rosie Lee Lane at about 9 a.m., according to police. Benson died at San Francisco General Hospital, while the second victim was expected to survive.

Officials with the medical examiner’s office said this morning they had not determined where Benson lived.

Police said a homicide arrest warrant has been issued for Diante Johnson. He is described as a black man, 6 feet 1 inch tall and 217 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

He should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.

8/28 5:17 PM: A San Francisco brother and sister were among three people arrested Thursday night for a double shooting in the city’s Bayview District.

The shooting happened at about 10:30 p.m. near Third Street and Quesada Avenue, according to police. Two male victims were hospitalized for injuries that were not considered life threatening.

Ray Carpenter, 29, his sister Tiffany Carpenter, 23, and Jamal Butler, 18, all city residents, were detained in a vehicle stop several blocks away from the shooting, Ray Carpenter and Butler were arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and conspiracy, according to police.

Tiffany Carpenter was arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle while permitting someone to bring a firearm into the vehicle, and of carrying a concealed weapon, police said.
Ray Carpenter and Butler remain in custody, according to police.

8/28 9:29 AM: The victim of a fatal shooting Thursday morning in San Francisco’s Bayview District was identified today as 23-year-old Marquez Benson, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Benson and another man were shot in the street near Matthew Court and Rosie Lee Lane at about 9 a.m., according to police. Benson died at San Francisco General Hospital, while the second victim was expected to survive.

Police described the suspect as a man between 20 and 25 years old, who was wearing a white T-shirt and a black beanie at the time of the shootings and was seen running from the area.

Police said Thursday they would keep “a strong presence in the community to prevent further acts of violence.” They are asking for the public’s help to locate the suspect.

The shooting happened at about 9 a.m. near Rosie Lee Lane and Matthew Court, police said. The suspect shot and injured two men, one of whom later died at San Francisco General Hospital, police Sgt. Wilfred Williams said.

The condition of the other victim was not immediately available.

10:04 AM: San Francisco police are investigating a shooting that occurred this morning in the city’s Bayview District, police Sgt. Lyn Tomioka said.

The shooting was reported at 8:56 a.m. between Rosie Lee Lane and Matthew Court, according to Tomioka.

At least one person was injured in the shooting, Tomioka said. She did not know the condition of the victim.
