phoebe_073009.jpgReady to feel even worse about not giving that homeless guy a dollar? Over the last few months, a five year old San Francisco girl named Phoebe has raised over $40,000 to be donated to the San Francisco Food Bank.

After learning the harsh truth of homelessness from her mother, Phoebe made a plan with her daycare teacher Kathleen Albert to collect cans. Using a campaign of handwritten letters, Phoebe engaged over 150 of her relatives and easily reached her initial goal of $1,000.

Phoebe has since gone on to found a non-profit consulting firm which helps other San Francisco organizations by providing flower-pastel stationary and crayons for their mailing campaigns. Well, that’s not exactly true–but her cause is still going strong, as support continues to pour in from across the country.
