phoebe_073009.jpgReady to feel even worse about not giving that homeless guy a dollar? Over the last few months, a five year old San Francisco girl named Phoebe has raised over $40,000 to be donated to the San Francisco Food Bank.

After learning the harsh truth of homelessness from her mother, Phoebe made a plan with her daycare teacher Kathleen Albert to collect cans. Using a campaign of handwritten letters, Phoebe engaged over 150 of her relatives and easily reached her initial goal of $1,000.

Phoebe has since gone on to found a non-profit consulting firm which helps other San Francisco organizations by providing flower-pastel stationary and crayons for their mailing campaigns. Well, that’s not exactly true–but her cause is still going strong, as support continues to pour in from across the country.

hey she did more than our mayor does…the mayor would have a big press conference, the Chronicle would dutifully write down every word as truth, and then nothing would happen except the Mayor looting MUNI to pay for staffers in his office.

Kudos to this child for just doing something, and getting things done. The Mayor and the Supervisors could learn something from her.
