Muni has let us know that “the Powell Street portion of the Powell-Hyde and Powell-Mason cable car lines is down because of the problem with the cable.” They do not expect to resume regular Powell Street cable car service until Saturday morning, with shuttle buses doing the job until then.

It’s times like this when someone asks “do the buses cost five bucks to ride, too?” The answer is, no, they cost the regular $1.50 fare.

The Powell line had a spring plagued with problems, but, until now, hadn’t suffered a significant outage since early March.
