UPDATE 6/30: Bay City News reports that Silas Byers, “who has given authorities various dates of birth that put him at either 43 or 44 years of age,” was arrested Friday for the stabbing of 49-year-old Douglas Johnson.

Byers, who was arraigned on a murder charge in superior court Monday, postponed entering a plea, and is scheduled to return to court tomorrow, according to the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department and the district attorney’s office. He remains in custody in lieu of $2 million bail.

According to BCN, “police have said there were witnesses to the killing, but they have not discussed a possible motive in the case.”

Originally published 6:32 AM, June 22, 2009: The 21st homicide of the year was reported at 11:50 last night. SFPD says a man was “apparently killed in the street” on the 1600 block of La Salle Avenue in the Bayview. Neither the cause of death nor the man’s identity has been determined, and no arrests have been made. We’ll update when we know more.

UPDATE: New details have emerged: first, that the cause of death was stabbing, and that the homicide occurred at about 12:50 AM this morning, not 11:50 Sunday night as previously reported. No suspect information is available, and no arrests have been made.

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 49-year-old Douglas Johnson, of San Francisco. The Man stabbed to death in Bayview marks city’s 22nd homicide. Chron and Ex report that Johnson was sitting in the passenger seat of a car when the man suspected of the stabbing approached him. The men had a brief conversation outside the car before the suspect stabbed Johnson, then fled on foot. Police still have not released any information on the suspect, and no arrests have been made.
