MAYOR NEWSOM’S STATEMENT ON THE UNITED STATES NINTH CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS DECISION IN FAVOR OF SAN FRANCISCO’S UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE PROGRAM

Ninth Circuit declines to grant Golden Gate Restaurant Association request for rehearing

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Today, Mayor Gavin Newsom applauded the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decision not to grant a rehearing request by the Golden Gate Restaurant Association challenging San Francisco’s universal health care program.

“The Court’s decision is a significant victory for the City and for the thousands of San Francisco workers who now have access to health care. It is my sincere hope that the Golden Gate Restaurant Association will work for, not against, the City and County’s efforts to expand health care access. With an estimated 60,000 uninsured adults, it is time for all of us to collectively focus our efforts on providing health care to our uninsured residents.”

Wow, Gavin Newsom’s so excited to get name-checked by Barack Obama on Tom Ammiano’s citywide health care plan that he’s now coming out against the Golden Gate Restaurant Association, one of the former Plumpjack restauranteurs‘s biggest backers? On an employer mandated fee that he didn’t even originally entirely support? Who knew “post-partisan” just meant “I’ll do anything to be governor“?
